The troll genocide continues

Jan’alai and Halazzi down!

/dance

My better half has written a very entertaining report on yesterday’s events. And I am one lazy troll. Go read!

Hex

Wow. Hey there. Remember me?

As you can see, I’m still alive, but I’ve been neglecting the blog somewhat. Here’s what I’ve been busy with the past two weeks or so:

http://hex.spunos.net

That’s right, after spending a few months in my own little vanity guild, I’m back on track in an actual raiding guild. And what’s more, this time I’m an officer and one of the founding members - it’s somewhat daunting and exciting at the same time. :)

If everything goes well we’ll hopefully be going strong in Zul’Aman in the very near future. This time I’ll try to keep the blog updated on our progress!

Alpha trolls

Back in the days, when WoW was still in Alpha version, certain character models looked… different. I was completely unaware of how different exactly until I read this thread.

Just look at this comparision. And at this screenshot!

I understand they wanted to make the horde females more attractive somehow, but damn… the old female troll model looked a lot better!

Please, Blizz, can’t you at least give me the big ears? :<

Brewfest!

Wait. Wait wait wait.

I get to have a real, actual, proper ram mount? And I get to ride it while wearing lederhosen?

To demonstrate just how cool this is, I present you my completely objective and unbiased racial mount mojo comparision chart:

wolves > rams > kitties > kodos > skeletal horses > horses > raptors* > mechanostriders > chocobos > elekks

As you can see, having a ram would fill me with almost the same amount of pure and undiluted joy as my first wolf mount did, way back when I hit exalted with Orgrimmar. So you bet I’m going to grind the tickets for this event! Even if it involves wiping Thrall’s forehead for two weeks straight, I’ll do it.

* Yes, I know that many people choose to play trolls just so they get to have a raptor. But for me, the raptor mount is the most obvious downside of being a troll. Its animation is choppy at best, and worse, it won’t let me ride into the Undercity elevators!

The big unavoidable Introduction

One fateful morning in February 2007, my little troll shaman walked her first steps in Azeroth. It was the very first time I played World of Warcraft, and she was my very first character. Learning how to walk and jump was easy enough and pretty soon I was happily tossing lightning bolts in all directions. The camera controls took a little longer to master, so my first few screenshots look disappointingly boring.

Truth to be told, it was never my intention to continue playing. The idea was that I would play for two weeks, enough time to satisfy my curiosity about the game, and then let the trial period expire.

Fast forward a couple of months. My trial period did indeed expire, I turned it into a paid account, and today I’m still playing. I take comfort in knowing that I’m not alone in falling for this cleverly laid-out trap. Damn you, Blizzard.

What’s more, my main character is still the same little troll. Except that she’s not so little anymore, I dang 70 with her four weeks ago. (The correct usage of the verb “to ding”: I ding, I dang, I have dung. Don’t tell yourself otherwise.)

I think now is a good time to look back and write down the lessons I have learned over the past couple of months. Enjoy your stay.
